Zither Concert

We have a leisurely morning on board and are treated to a zither concert. The artist explained to Bob the difference between our Appalacian dulcimer and the zither. With the zither, he can play melody as well as accompanying strings. Basically, the dulcimer has just melody strings. Tomy Temerson is one of only 12 zither players in the world.  He explained it was like playing 3 guitars at once.  One plays melody ( four fingers of right hand ) thumb plays the rhythm guitar and left hand plays the base and accompanying strings.  No wonder there aren't a host of folks lining up to learn to play the zither.  Do hope there is a plan to recruit some young people to learn to play this beautiful instrument.
