We chose to tour a very, very old castle called Amsterdam Castle Muiderslot. We took a boat trip across a manmade lake that covered 400 sq kilometers. The lake was built by building a dike to keep the sea water out, then pumping out seawater and the water went from brackish to now all fresh water. We arrived at the castle by boat. The castle has a long history from Thirteenth Century ( 1200s ) to Seventeenth Century ( 1600 ). If you are interested in the rich history, you can Google the castle name. We have toured lots of castles in Europe and our tour of this one was one of the best. Lois and I climbed many circular steps high into one of the towers.
All the romance of medieval novels is crazy if they actually had to climb these steps! The guide was an actor as well as a director and was excellent.
