Last of the Melk Abbey

This is the top of a large trunk that was used
to store relics and move them to safer places in
the event of an attack. The mechanism is the
working part of the lock!! Our guide is holding
the key in her right hand.

This is the oldest relic in the Abbey.  While it might
look like a tiny box, it was actually a moveable altar
that could be moved as the monks went from
place to place.  It is over 1000 years old.

The opulence in the actual church was beyond
any description and the photos don't due it
justice.

Looks like remnants of the early fortress wall.
